The 35th Annual MayFest Arts & Crafts Festival will be
held in the Downtown Leesville Historic District on May 6th
and 7th. The occasion is sponsored by the Vernon Arts
Council and offers free musical entertainment and fun for kids of all ages.
A wide assortment of Louisiana entertainers will perform on the main stage located on Third St.
in front of the historic courthouse. A gospel stage will offer local gospel groups and will be
located on Third St. in front of Celebrations. Children's activities, such as the Chalk-A-Block
will be located in front of the Vernon Parish Police Jury Government Complex building.
Food vendors from all over the state will offer home-made favorites like funnel cakes,
blooming onions, BBQ plates, fried catfish plates, po'boys, corndogs, red beans & rice,
jambalaya, and gumbo, as well as less familiar delights like fried Almond Joys, gator po' boys,
and fried pickles. On Saturday, the Arts Council will have
boiled crawfish with corn and potatoes starting around 2:30
PM.
Browse the wares of arts & crafts vendors who have come from far
and near. There'll be a wide variety to choose from
with everything from hand-made quilts, crocheted items, and wood crafts, to home-made pickles, jelly, and syrup,
to Pampered Chef cookware, original paintings, stained glass, jewelry, handbags, and more.
The Armadillo Stampede 5K Run, sponsored by AUSA, will begin at 8:00 AM on Saturday May 6th. You can
run the 5K, the 5K Super Squad, or the 1 mile Fun Run/Walk. The first 100 registrants will receive a
free T-Shirt. Individual entry fee is $10 if you register in advance and $15 on the day of the event.
