West Louisiana Forestry Festival / Lions Club Rodeo

The West Louisiana Forestry Festival / Lions Club Rodeo is held the first full weekend in October each year.

This year, the Mighty Thomas Carnival will present an assortment of rides and games of chance. Local civic organizations will sponsor food booths selling many local favorites.

Vernon Parish residents are invited to enter Arts & Crafts, home economics items, or field crops that were made or grown within the past year. Please see the attached catalog for a complete list of categories and more information.

Admission to all walk-in gates -- $3 per adult; $2 per child (a child is 12 years of age and under); preschool is free. These admission charges prevail unless lesser charges are advertised at special times. Entry is free for all military and family members with a military I.D. Free Parking in designated areas.

Saturday, October 1, 2011
9:00 am Pine Straw Bale Stacking Contest
West LA Fair Grounds
Participating 4-H clubs will sponsor 2 man teams who will compete to see who can stack the most bales of pine straw in a given amount of time. Admission is free.
1:00 pm Horse Show
West LA Forestry Festival Rodeo Arena
This event is open to all Vernon Parish youth. Exhibitors may compete in many categories including English & Western Pleasure, Working Hunter over Fences, Barrel Racing, Pole Bending and much more. Admission is free to watch the event.
7:00 pm Forestry Festival Queen's Pageant
Auditorium at the West LA Fair Grounds
Two seniors from each school in the parish will compete in a beauty pageant for the title of 2011 West Louisiana Forestry Festival Queen. Admission is $5 for adults; $3 for students; Free for pre-schoolers.

Monday, October 3, 2011
7:00 pm Junior King & Queen
Auditorium at the West LA Fair Grounds
First Graders representing each school in the parish will compete in a beauty pageant for the titles of Junior King & Queen. Admission is $5 for adults; $3 for students; Free for pre-schoolers.

Tuesday, October 4, 2011
5:30 pm 4-H Woodsman Skills Contest
West LA Forestry Festival Fair Grounds
Student 4-H teams from each participating school in the parish compete in woodsman's skills contests, such as Log Rolling, Crosscut Saw, and more. Admission is free.

Wednesday, October 5, 2011
11:00 am Senior Citizen's Day
Shriner's Building at the West LA Fair Grounds
Senior citizens are invited to come out for a free luncheon sponsored by the Vernon Parish Council on Aging. More than 200 door prizes will be given away. Health care providers will be onsite to provide free screenings for blood pressure, glucose, vision, hearing, etc. Senior Citizens are admitted free.
3:00 pm Fair Opens -- Buddy Night
Get admission for two for the price of one and 2 armbands cost only $20 from 4-10 pm.

Thursday, October 6, 2011
3:00 pm Fair Opens -- Fort Polk Appreciation Day
Military equipment and vehicles will be on display for the day. 60 tickets costs just $25 with a miliary ID.
4:00 pm Leesville Lions Club Rodeo Parade
Third Street, Downtown Leesville
As always, expect to have a great time at the Lion's Club Rodeo Parade in downtown Leesville. Trail rides from all over the parish will arrive in time to join the parade, so expect to see horses all over town today.
7:00 pm Country 105 / 4-H Big Dog Bull Roping
West LA Forestry Festival Rodeo Arena
Participating 4-H Club members compete in bull roping.

9:00 am Fair Opens -- School Day
Armbands cost $18 from 9am until 4pm or from 6-11 pm.
9:00 am Pet Show
Livestock Barn at the West LA Fair Grounds
Enter your pure bred, mixed breed, or unusual pet in any of several categories. No charge for admission to view the show. Sorry, no snakes allowed.
11:00 am Rabbit Show
Livestock Barn at the West LA Fair Grounds
Vernon Parish Youth Livestock exhibits will remain in the Livestock Barn for the duration of the fair.
2:00 pm Poultry Show
Livestock Barn at the West LA Fair Grounds
Vernon Parish Youth Livestock exhibits will remain in the Livestock Barn for the duration of the fair.

10:00 am Livestock Show (Beef, Dairy, Sheep, Goats, and Swine)
Livestock Barn at the West LA Fair Grounds
Vernon Parish Youth Livestock exhibits will remain in the Livestock Barn for the duration of the fair.
12:00 pm Fair Opens
All rides are reduced by one ticket from Noon until 6pm and armbands are $$18 from 6-11 pm.
7:00 pm Country 105 / 4-H Big Dog Bull Roping

Finalists from October 6th will compete.
7:15 pm Parade of Champions
