Anacoco Spillway Park is a gated campground catering to fishermen and hunters. ATV's and horses are welcome. Campers may use the primitive trails located beneath the spillway, along lovely Anacoco Creek.


Enduro Multi-Use Trail
Located at the junction of Forest Road 440 and 442.

The Enduro Multi-Use Trail is the only trail in the Vernon Unit of the Kisatchie National Forest that has been approved for Off-Highway Vehicles (OHVs). It has been designated as a Day-Use area and costs $5.00 per operator, which can be paid at a self-service fee station like the one pictured at right.

The Enduro Trailhead Camp is a primitive tent camping area with vault toilets and is the only campground within the Kisatchie National Forest that has been designated for OHV / mountain bikes. Take your horse to Hodges Gardens State Park. They have riding trails and an equestrian campground where riders can camp with their horses.


Kisatchie National Forest Horseback Trails

Several trails contained within the Vernon Unit of the Kisatchie National Forest are designated as horse riding trails, including Government Pond, Whiskey Chitto, Enduro Multi-Use, Big Branch, and Turkey Pen Trails.

Seeing Colors is a boarding stable just off Alligator Lake Rd, near North Fort Polk. They offer riding classes as well as both short and long-term boarding.

Swany Creek Ranch Riding School Stables offers English and Western lessons for the beginner, intermediate, and advanced rider. The lessons include horse care, confidence building, safety, and riding fundamentals. Lessons are by reservation only. They have party plans with pony rides that include use of their grills and tables with chairs. Temporary and long-term boarding is available .

Family memberships for the Wagon Wheel Riding Club can be purchased for $75.00 per year, then any family member may participate at any show throughout the year. Age groups are broken down as follows: 0-6, 7-14, 15-18, 19-39, Over 40. Events include: Flags, Stakes, Poles, Tie Down Roping, Break Away Roping, Ribbon Roping, Goat Tying, Heading, Heeling, Clover Leaf Barrels, and Straight Pattern Barrels.

Shows are held on the third Saturday of each month, usually at the rodeo arena in Slagle, LA - but when the weather is bad or it's too hot, they move to the covered arena at the Vernon Parish fairgrounds in Leesville. After every show, cash prizes are awarded to the best riders in each age group, for each event, PLUS points are added to a yearly total for annual awards.

There is no admission charge for spectators to the events. Concessions are available.
